Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) called on Congressional leaders to put America first by addressing the crisis at our Nation’s Southern border before sending any more U.S. Taxpayer funds to other countries like Ukraine. The proposed “border bill” - negotiated by Senators James Lankford, Chris Murphy, Kyrsten Sinema, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas - cements into law President Biden’s terrible and negligent border policies while funding Ukraine’s border security. The bill codifies “catch and release,” allows over 1.8 million illegal foreign nationals to enter the U.S. prior to triggering emergency authorities, mandates Taxpayer-funded attorneys for illegal foreign nationals, and funnels billions of dollars to Non-Governmental Organizations that facilitate illegal entry. Now, Senate leaders are proposing an “America-last” foreign aid package for Ukraine and Gaza that will debilitate American strength and escalate conflict across the world. The bill requires the U.S. to be engaged in a multi-year war supporting Ukraine in a pay-now-plan-later model with no guaranteed victory for Ukraine. The bill goes as far as to give Ukraine $300 million for its own border security and law enforcement – all of which U.S. Citizens will fund as our own border lies wide open. The bill further gives more than $9.1 billion to Ukraine and Gaza for “humanitarian aid” without any meaningful oversight of how the funds will be spent. “The American Taxpayer cannot afford to (and should not) fund forever wars in other countries while we face a national crisis stemming from our wide-open Southern border,” said Congressman Perry. “House Republicans already passed sensible border legislation last year that underpins the many authorities and legal responsibilities that the Biden administration chooses to ignore.” Secure the Border Act of 2023 (H.R. 2), ends catch-and-release by: mandating the detention, removal, or return of illegal foreign nationals; mandates the construction of the border wall; closes asylum loopholes; empowers States to sue the federal government for failing to secure the Southern border; and requires unaccompanied children to safely be returned home. The U.S. Senate refused to pass H.R. 2 after it passed in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2023. To read the full text of H.R. 2872, click here. |
