Congressman Scott Perry Introduces the Protecting Taxpayers' Wallet Act
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) introduced the Protecting Taxpayers’ Wallet Act. The bill requires federal employee unions to reimburse federal agencies for resources spent each quarter.
“Forcing the American Taxpayer to foot the bill for federal union organizing is outrageous and absurd,” said Congressman Perry. “If federal employees and resources are going to be used for union tasks, unions should foot the bill.”
Early results of a 2024 House Oversight investigation show frequent, official time abuses across the U.S. government. For example, agencies ranging from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to the Social Security Administration allow highly paid, critical/essential employees to spend 100% of official (Taxpayer-paid) time on union activity, instead of the work they were hired to do.
“Public money should be spent to benefit taxpayers, not bureaucrats,” said Senator Ernst. “Every cent of Americans’ hard-earned money should be spent on them, not negotiating cushy benefits for federal employees. I am getting Washington back to work and ending the subsidies for federal unions.”
The bill discourages federal employee unions from using official time at the public’s expense. American Taxpayers are paying government employees to do a job – not to do the bidding and strategizing of unions.
