Defending America and America's Interests

Defending America and America's Interests

Friends,

As your Representative, I’ve been committed to strengthening our national security and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively in defense of our Country. As a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I have fought to hold the Biden-Harris administration accountable for its numerous failures including its weakness on Iran and the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. I’ve worked to address the administration’s failures, ensuring that America takes decisive action against threats and bolsters our security to keep our Nation safe. So far this Congress, I have introduced 8 bills and 7 amendments, and spoke at more than 20 committee hearings to that end.

I’m proud to highlight these key accomplishments below.

Putting America's Interests First

I introduced theDefund Davos Act, whichprohibits U.S. taxpayer funds from going to the World Economic Forum, a globalist retreat where elites meet to discuss ways to restrict the rights and freedoms of folks across the world. Your tax dollars should not be wasted on a ski trip for the global elite.

TheDefund the Wuhan Institute of Virology Act,which I introduced, prohibits U.S. taxpayer funds from going to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the lab in Wuhan, China responsible for the leak of the COVID-19 virus into the public and causing the global pandemic. Your tax dollars should not be wasted on virus laboratories in foreign countries.

I introduced the Falun Gong Protection Act to sanction any individual or institution that abets the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) practice of forced organ harvesting, including and especially that of Falun Gong practitioners. The CCP and their enablers must be held accountable for these horrific practices.

Holding the Biden-Harris Administration Accountable for Weakness and Incompetence

Grilling Secretary Antony Blinken on the Biden Admin's Double Standard

During the Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on The State of American Diplomacy in 2024,I questioned Secretary Blinken on the Biden administration’s double standard when it comes to supporting Israel and Ukraine. President Biden has given Ukraine billions of American taxpayer dollars (without rigorous restrictions), but imposed stringent conditions upon Israel that are restricting her ability to respond to Hamas terror attacks – to include forcing Israel to come up with a plan of governance for the terrorists that attacked her, a plan for the hostages, and a limitation on weapons employment.

The Biden-sponsored “Israel aid” package took significant funds and gave them to Hamas. Yes, you read that correctly – terrorists that are hijacking humanitarian aid from Gaza and using it to fight Israel. So while your government claims to be supporting Israel, they're sending your hard-earned dollars to terrorists that not only aim for the eradication of Israel, but the U.S. as well.

I will always stand with our ally, Israel, and do everything to ensure she has the resources to keep her people safe and secure. You can watch the hearing above.

Questioning General Milley on the Botched Afghanistan Withdrawal

During the Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing on An Assessment of the Biden Administration’s Withdrawal from Afghanistan by America’s Generals, I questioned General Milley and General McKenzie about the rules of engagement during the Abbey Gate incident, where U.S. service members tragically lost their lives. Despite the inherent right of self-defense, service members on the ground were required to seek approval to engage a potential threat. This delay, compounded by faulty intelligence, led to devastating consequences. I also pressed General Milley on the botched drone strike that occurred three days later, which killed 10 civilians, including seven children. Despite public claims of a successful strike, it took five days to admit the mistake.

Such failures highlight a lack of accountability and transparency within the administration, and our service members deserve better.

Holding the Biden Administration Accountable for Weakness towards China and Iran

In the Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing on AUKUS Implementation and Challenges to International Security and Arms Control in the 21st Century, I had the opportunity to question the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security about Iran’s nuclear activities. I asked whether Iran’s uranium enrichment has continued to exceed what is necessary for peaceful nuclear power. The response confirmed that Iran has been increasing its enrichment levels to about 60%, which is clearly indicative of intentions beyond peaceful energy production.

I pressed further on the lack of a concrete plan to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The focus remains on pursuing diplomatic solutions, yet it seems that Iran is progressing with its nuclear ambitions without substantial checks.

I also raised concerns regarding intelligence operations, particularly whether a warrant was required for foreign Five Eyes agencies to spy on American citizens. The Under Secretary hesitated to provide a clear stance, indicating uncertainty about the protections that should apply. This lack of clarity is alarming, especially when considering the constitutional rights of all Americans.

Finally, I challenged the notion of unilateral disarmament. We are dismantling our weapons of mass destruction while hoping China will follow suit, a strategy I find deeply concerning given their track record. This approach does not instill confidence in our national security.

Questioning The Biden Admin's Failure to Enforce the Doha Agreement

During the Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing on How the Biden Administration Failed to Enforce the Doha Agreement, I questioned Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad on the Biden administration’s decision-making regarding the chaotic U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. Khalilzad previously testified that the withdrawal would be based on conditions on the ground and Taliban compliance. However, despite blatant violations by the Taliban and widespread concerns, the administration proceeded with the withdrawal, disregarding the conditions Americans were told would guide the process. Not only did the Taliban fail to meet their commitments, but the decision to push forward led to tragic consequences, including the loss of American lives.

It’s troubling that while the world witnessed these violations, the administration chose to move forward without addressing them. The American people deserve accountability for this failure in leadership.

Blasting the Biden Admin for Funding Atheism in Nepal

During the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight & Accountability hearing on Assessing Shortcomings in the State Department’s Foreign Assistance Grants Process, I questioned Biden administration officials about U.S. foreign assistance spending in countries like Nepal and Tibet. It was revealed that grant recipients are allowed to write their own monitoring and evaluation criteria, meaning they essentially oversee themselves without third-party accountability. This is particularly concerning given that taxpayer money is being spent on initiatives like promoting atheism abroad, DEI projects, and climate programs—areas that lack clear, measurable outcomes. Meanwhile, countries like China are investing in hard infrastructure and economic development.

As Americans struggle with rising costs for groceries, daycare, and utilities, it is unacceptable that $56 billion in foreign assistance is being spent without proper oversight or effectiveness evaluations. My constituents deserve to know that their hard-earned tax dollars are not being wasted on programs that do not serve U.S. interests. You can watch the hearing here.

In February, I had the opportunity publish an opinion piece with Congresswoman Claudia Tenney in the Washington Times outlining our opposition to the Biden administration’s approach to the Houthis and Iran. President Biden’s actions have two significant flaws: he removed the Houthis from the Foreign Terrorist Organization list, allowing them to escalate their attacks on international maritime vessels, and his designation of them as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group lacks the necessary restrictions and sanctions to effectively counter their aggression. This misstep not only endangers U.S. service members but also undermines efforts to maintain stability in a critical supply chain route. As if that weren't bad enough, the Biden-Harris Administration has appointed pro-Iranian officials to senior defense and national security positions. Read the OpEd here.

For Perry, who has wanted to serve on the influential committee for some time, said in a statement that it would be an opportunity to conduct “actual oversight” on the intelligence community.
