Congressman Scott Perry Issues Statement Following Resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) released the following statement upon the resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director, Kimberly Cheatle:
“The repercussions of the cultural rot in our government agencies is now painfully clear to the American People.
That same rot caused the U.S. Secret Service to lose sight of its priorities and standards - resulting in the assassination attempt on President Trump, and putting other Americans at risk.
Reform begins with accountability. While the resignation of former Director Cheatle is a good start, we have a long way to go.”
Former Director Cheatle’s resignation follows her lack of accountability and failure or refusal to provide the American People any relevant information on the attempted assassination of President Trump during a rally ten days ago in Butler, Pennsylvania.
During the House Committee on Oversight & Accountability hearing yesterday, Congressman Perry questioned Director Cheatle on Secret Service performance, process, and procedures with regard to this deadly incident. She was unable and/or unwilling to answer basic questions on the security lapses and communications failures that led not only to the near assassination of President Trump, but the death of Corey Comperatore, and the critical wounding of David Dutch and James Copenhaver.
