Chairman Perry’s Statement Honoring Our Nation’s Fallen Law Enforcement Officers

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, a bill authorizing the use of the Capitol Grounds for the annual National Peace Officers Memorial Services, led by U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10), passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Perry, Chairman of the  Transportation and Infrastructure Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee, made the following remarks honoring the lives of fallen law enforcement officers during a speech on the floor of U.S. House of Representatives:

“H. Con. Res 83, which I introduced, honors with a memorial service at the Capitol our Nation’s fallen law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty last year.

“Every day, our police officers show up to protect and serve, keeping our families, businesses, and communities safe.

“Unfortunately, too many of our police officers are demonized and disparaged for doing one of the hardest, most important jobs in the Country – and it’s a job that continues to grow more dangerous.

“We all owe our gratitude to the police officers who continue to serve despite these challenging times.

“This memorial service is a small way to thank and honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the lives of others.

“I also thank the Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Ranking Member Dina Titus for working with me on this resolution.

“Madam Speaker, I urge support of this resolution and reserve the balance of my time.”
