Congressman Perry Announces 2023 Winner of Congressional App Challenge

Congressman Perry meets with Wen Pen, Andy Tang, Dr. Jesse Rawls, and Mrs. Amy Miller for the Congressional App Challenge Award
Harrisburg, PA – Today, U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) announced Shunyu (Andy) Tang as the winner of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional
District. Tang, a Senior at Cumberland Valley High School, won for his web application Perceptron, which simplifies studying for students.

Andy sets the standard for hard work, skill, effort, and diligence, and is a great credit not only to his family and school, but for our entire community,” said Rep. Perry.Andy possesses unique talent and creativity, and his app will undoubtedly be an incredible studying tool for students for years to come.”

Perceptron uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies like generative pre-trained transformers and optical character recognition to transform images of study notes into quiz questions. The questions Perceptron generates offer a true testing environment as AI generates the questions using a full stack web framework super base, an open-source database, and open-source code editors. Perceptron encourages students to learn, use reinforces key technical concepts for students, and leverages AI in a positive manner.

The Congressional App Challenge started in 2015 to engage students in congressional districts across the Country to learn code and submit original apps to the competition. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. By encouraging and recognizing our Nation’s young programming talent, Congress hopes to shine a light on the growing importance of these skills.
