U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) today invited high school students in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District to participate in the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. Initiated in 1982, the nationwide high school visual art competition is an opportunity to encourage and recognize artistic talent across the country.
“I’m privileged to once again sponsor the 10th District’s art competition that showcases the artistic creativity of South Central Pennsylvania’s high school students. Each year, I’m amazed by the quality of the submissions and the shear talent that lies in our community. I’m looking forward to seeing this year’s works and hanging a new piece of art in the Capitol,” said Congressman Scott Perry.
Since the Artistic Discovery competition began, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. The winning artwork from the 10th Congressional District will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. In addition, the winner and a guest will be invited to attend a reception in Washington, D.C. where they will be escorted on a tour of the U.S. Capitol.
Judging is performed by members of the local art community. Submissions are due by April 17, 2020 and will be accepted in Congressman Perry’s Cumberland, Dauphin, and York District offices. While the official 2020 Congressional Art Competition rules require that each piece of artwork be framed, the 10th Congressional District’s competition requires only the winning entry be framed.
