Perry Demands Pakistani Accountability in Wake of Deadly India Terror Attack
Washington,
March 28, 2019
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Scott Perry introduced a resolution condemning Pakistan for its role in the deadliest terrorist attack in India in three decades. The resolution demands additional action from the Pakistani government, including eliminating safe harbors for terrorists.
“Pakistan has a long history of harboring terrorists and terrorist sympathizers, despite continued American efforts to root out bad actors in the region. Actively choosing lax enforcement has cost innocent lives and emboldens radicals to perpetuate similar attacks. Enough is enough; now’s the time to hold the Pakistani government accountable,” said Congressman Perry. On February 19, 2019, Pakistan-based terrorist organization, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), attacked an Indian Central Reserve Police Force convoy, killing at least 40 Indian paramilitary forces and wounding at least 44 others. Perry’s resolution calls for the United States to condemn the attack, extend condolences and sympathies for the lives lost in India, recognize the threat of JeM, reaffirm America’s commitment to ending Pakistani-based terror and acknowledge India’s continued commitment to preventing terrorism in the region. The United Nations and United States recognize JeM as a terrorist organization. In 2017, the Department of State’s 2017 Country Reports on Terrorism noted that Pakistan has failed to significantly limit JeM from openly raising money, recruiting and training in Pakistan.
