Perry Seeks to Defend Local Jewish Community from Terror

Calls on DHS to investigate threats toward Community Centers as Domestic Terrorism

WASHINGTON – In the wake of recent bomb threats made toward Jewish Community Centers across the Nation, including both York and Harrisburg, Congressmen Scott Perry and Lou Barletta co-led a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly requesting these threats be investigated as acts of domestic terrorism.

“The recent threats of violence against Jewish Community Centers are unfathomable and must be confronted. That is why we’ll be working with both the federal government and our local organizations to ensure the security of our residents and communities,” said Perry.

“I want to thank the members of our local law enforcement community who made sure that the Harrisburg JCC was secure after Monday’s bomb threat,” Barletta said. “These anti-Semitic threats are inexcusable. I will continue to work with the department to make sure that all members of our community have the resources necessary to practice their religion peacefully and without fear of a terrorist attack.

On Monday, February 27, 2017 the York Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg were both evacuated after bomb threats were called in against the sites.
