Congressman Perry Statement on ISIS Arrest in Harrisburg

WASHINGTON – Congressman Scott Perry (PA-4) today issued a statement regarding the FBI’s arrest of a 19-year-old suspect in Harrisburg, accused of aiding and spreading propaganda for the terrorist organization ISIS.  Perry is a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, my focus has been the growing threat of homegrown and worldwide Islamist extremism.  The terror landscape is changing faster than our safeguards can evolve, especially when it concerns the use of social media and encrypted communication as a means of terrorist recruitment and propaganda.

“Today's announcement from the Justice Department clearly shows that terrorism and terrorist targets aren't limited to large metropolitan areas like New York, Washington, or Los Angeles; it can reach into the heart of America in places like San Bernardino, Chattanooga, and now Harrisburg. This is unsettling news for all of us in Central Pennsylvania; but instead of succumbing to fear, we must be vigilant, situationally aware and work with one another and law enforcement in our communities to identify potential threats.

"I thank the federal, state and local law enforcement personnel who took part in this arrest and who work tirelessly to keep us safe."
