Statement on President Obama's FY 2016 Budget

“President Obama’s budget shows a breathtaking failure of leadership by increasing government spending 65 percent over the next decade - when we’re already more than $18 trillion in debt. I’m open to discussing the President’s ideas, but we must operate in the real world and stop spending money we don’t have. Social Security, Medicare and other vital programs will go bankrupt if we don’t. The key to growing a healthy economy begins by respecting hard-working taxpayers, not pitting Americans against each other via $2.1 trillion in tax increases and income redistribution schemes. In the next few days, I’ll be introducing a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution and soon afterwards the U.S. House will pass a budget that balances over the next decade. President Obama has never introduced a budget that balances and the time for the same old empty political posturing is over. We must take bold action on new solutions to strengthen our economy and provide opportunity for all Americans."
