Perry Named Chairman of Homeland Security Subcommittee

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-4) has been named the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency for the 114th Congress.  The announcement was made today by U.S. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas). Rep. Perry served as a member of the Homeland Security Committee during his first term.

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency oversees the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) day-to-day operations to ensure that it is operating in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The subcommittee works to identify potential opportunities to eliminate duplicative or unnecessary programs, find efficiencies that will contribute to DHS’s ability to meet its vital missions, and identify areas for cost savings. The subcommittee also conducts rigorous oversight to ensure departmental regulations enhance security without posing an unnecessary barrier to private sector job creation.

“I am pleased to announce my colleague, Scott Perry, as the chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency,” said Chairman McCaul. “His time in the military and his continued service to this committee has provided him with the necessary knowledge to lead this important subcommittee. Scott has always been able to ask the hard questions which will prove beneficial as we conduct our oversight of the Department of Homeland Security, the third largest federal agency. I have full confidence in his abilities and I look forward to working with him this Congress to ensure the safety and security of our nation while ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively and efficiently.”

"I’m privileged to take on this responsibility to help strengthen DHS’s core mission of protecting our homeland,” said Rep. Perry.  “As part of its oversight of DHS, this subcommittee will make security and fiscal accountability to the American people our top priority.”

This subcommittee chairmanship comes after two legislative measures sponsored by Rep. Perry were signed into law at the end of the 113th Congress.  The first was to preserve the Lincoln Train Station, where President Abraham Lincoln arrived prior to delivering the Gettysburg Address, while the second helps reinforce the protection and security of chemical facilities from terrorist attacks.

The 114th Congress will be sworn into office tomorrow. In the coming days, Rep. Perry will introduce several bills to advance common-sense solutions to control government spending, create more opportunities for all Americans and reduce government regulation over families and small businesses.  Rep. Perry will remain a member of the full Homeland Security Committee, as well as his current assignments on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. His other subcommittee assignments will be determined in the coming days.

Residents of the 4th District are welcome to contact Congressman Perry and his staff at any of the offices or via Perry.House.Gov, where they can sign up for e-mail updates and for his Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
