Rep. Scott Perry Statement on the Continuing Resolution

Washington, D.C., September 20, 2013

Rep. Scott Perry released the following statement after the House passed a Continuing Resolution to stop a government shut down:

Today, the House voted to keep the Federal Government open and protect every hard-working American from the harmful impacts of Obamacare.  We’re leading the fight to do the right thing by controlling spending, preventing a government shut down and protecting this country from Obamacare – it’s time for the Senate to do the same.

The Obama Administration recently announced a delay of the Obamacare employer mandate until after the 2014 midterm elections. While I agree with the President’s decision to delay the employer mandate, I do not agree that the delay should be made available only to protect big business; hardworking Americans deserve the same protection from this unworkable law. That’s why the House continues to lead the fight against this untenable and unaffordable law.

As a soldier, I especially understand the importance of making sure our troops continue to get paid and receive the resources they need. It is also important that we ensure that our social safety net is not affected by making certain that there is no interruption in vital services like Social Security and Medicare. That’s why I voted to keep the government from shutting down. Again, it’s time for the President and the Senate to work with the House to keep the government open, protect Americans from Obamacare, and ensure that we begin to right our fiscal situation so that we can guarantee that critical programs like Social Security and Medicare continue to exist for current and future generations.
