Legislative Updates
In the Fight with Congressman Scott Perry
Washington,
March 7, 2025
Hey folks - This week in Washington DC, we’re continuing to fight to preserve the American dream. Watch here.
Below are four important events for your attention:
1. Oversight Committee Hearing: Democrat Mayors and Sanctuary City Policies
The Oversight Committee held a hearing about Democrat-controlled cities, such as Chicago and Denver, that continue to shield illegal migrants from federal immigration enforcement and refuse to cooperate with ICE - even when dealing with criminals.
Why This Matters: Democrat mayors dodged my basic questions about the number of illegal migrants with criminal records in their cities. They also denied any link between illegal migration and rising crime, even though they admitted they don’t track migration status in arrests. If they aren’t collecting data, how can they claim there’s no connection?
Dive Deeper: Watch my line of questioning here.
2. The State of the Union
In his Joint Address to Congress on Tuesday night, President Trump laid out a clear vision for America’s future.
Why This Matters: A strong majority of Americans approved of the President’s speech, with polling showing high marks on border security, the economy, and law enforcement support.
Dive Deeper: President Trump’s address honored cancer survivors, Fallen Service Members, Law Enforcement, and cancer survivors. While some – sadly – showed disrespect during this recognition, I was proud to join the President in honoring these heroes.
3. Government Funding and Budget Negotiations
Why This Matters: Keeping the government open while ensuring Taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly is a priority.
Dive Deeper: With a deadline approaching, Congress must pass a funding package to prevent a shutdown. We’re working to ensure conservative priorities like border security and energy independence are at the top of the priority list. While some compromises may be necessary, shutting down the government is never the desired option. The focus is on getting the best possible outcome for the American People.
4. Legislative Initiatives
45Q Tax Credit Repeal This bill is significant because it reduces overregulation and fraud, with the added benefit of terminating a wasteful tax credit that can be exchanged for real tax breaks in the pending reconciliation package.
Why This Matters: Reducing government interference lowers costs, prevents market distortions, and stops wasteful subsidies.
Dive Deeper: Instead of letting the energy market work freely, this bill ends a credit that encourages companies to chase government handouts rather than focus on efficient, low-cost energy production.
TREAT PTSD Act I’ve introduced this bill several times and am hopeful to finally get it passed in this legislative session. As a Veteran myself, I’m laser-focused on increasing support for my brothers- and sisters- in arms who suffer from PTSD.
Why This Matters: Veterans have earned the best possible medical care. This bill offers a real solution to PTSD.
Dive Deeper: This bill requires the VA and DOD to provide Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) therapy to Veterans and Service Members diagnosed with PTSD. The treatment is highly effective – it’s amazing, I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and know people who have received it - with an 85% success rate and no significant side effects; yet the VA currently offers it at only 11 facilities in the U.S. It has to change, and it’s negligent – at best – that we don’t offer it on as widespread a basis as possible.
