Congressman Scott Perry Introduces the EQUIP Act of 2024
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) introduced the Ensuring Quality Investments in Preparedness Act of 2024, or the EQUIP Act of 2024, to require the President to establish a disaster deductible for each state to offset a portion of the federal assistance provided in response to a major disaster.
“Disaster relief is a critical function of government; however, all levels of government must have skin in the game if we’re going to rein in out-of-control spending and put America on a path to fiscal sustainability,”said Rep. Scott Perry, “Giving a hand up – not a handout - must be the underlying principle behind everything the federal government does.”
The EQUIP Act of 2024 will amend the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act to require each state to pay three times its population or the amount of federal financial assistance provided, whichever number is higher, to ensure that the American Taxpayer is not fully on the hook for disaster relief. Major disaster states must have skin in the game in paying for disaster relief.
The EQUIP Act of 2024 also advances the goal of ensuring that federally funded projects produce real, tangible results without the waste that far too often follows government spending.
