Congressman Scott Perry Denounces House Passage of Continuing Resolution

“This is worse than the status quo,” said Representative Perry. “Republicans were not elected by our constituents to spend with reckless abandon, nor to vote for more federal spending without policy changes.”

Today, U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) denounced the passage of the Further Additional Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act of 2024, or H.R. 2872, in the U.S. House of Representatives. The short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) includes spending levels well above even those under a Democrat majority and does nothing to stop – or even address - the Biden administration’s failed border policies.

This is worse than the status quo,” said Representative Perry.Republicans were not elected by our constituents to spend with reckless abandon, nor to vote for more federal spending without policy changes.”

The CR extends the January 19 and February 2 funding deadlines to March 1 and March 8, 2024. H.R. 2872 fails to implement any of the commonsense policy changes or funding cuts included in the 12 appropriations bills the House agreed to in 2023. In January, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Schumer reached a topline agreement of $1.59 trillion in spending, with an additional $69 billion in undisclosed “side deals” before any emergency spending - bringing FY 2024 federal spending to at least $1.68 trillion.

With crippling cost of living, higher prices at the pumps, and breathtaking funding to illegal foreign nationals, the American People cannot afford this proposed, negligent spending. To read the full text of H.R. 2872, click here
