Perry Responds to Senate Acquittal of President Trump

U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) offered the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump on all Articles of Impeachment.

“As a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I attended the closed-door depositions and open hearings during the House impeachment proceedings. After hours of testimony, the Democrats clearly had no evidence of treason, bribery, or other high crime and misdemeanor – the basis for the impeachment of a President. Despite zero evidence, the House Democrats decided to drag the American People through a monthslong, partisan hit job - not to mention a reprehensible waste of time and money. I’m glad to see the facts of this case prevail in the Senate, resulting in the acquittal of President Trump,” said Congressman Perry. “Our Founding Fathers set a high bar for impeachment to safeguard it from becoming a political weapon, lest it be used to remove a President based on politics or how he/she comports themselves. My Democrat colleagues made impeaching President Trump their aim since the day he was elected, based solely on their disdain for him - the precise fear of our Founding Fathers. The acquittal of President Trump is the result that aligns with Article I of our Constitution. Congress needs to get back to work to deliver better infrastructure, national security, and prosperity to the American People.
