Congressman Perry Offers Tentative Support for GOP Tax Overhaul
Washington,
September 28, 2017
Washington, D.C. – House Republicans unveiled their highly anticipated tax reform proposal earlier today with the goal of creating new jobs, bigger paychecks, and a more fair and simple Tax Code. Congressman Scott Perry joined the House Freedom Caucus to announce their support of the framework.
“The outline is good, but we need to see the brackets and some other details. As it stands now, I'm supportive of the proposal,” said Perry. “The American People deserve a tax code that prioritizes their needs - one that's simple, fair and easy to understand. Everyone should be able to keep more of their own hard-earned money, and our role as a government is to create the opportunity for small businesses to generate jobs and prosperity.” Details of the plan include: reducing the number of income tax brackets from seven to three, with a possible fourth bracket to ensure the wealthy don't contribute less in taxes than they do today; doubling the standard deduction; enhancing the Child Tax Credit; eliminating loopholes for the wealthy but keeping those for the middle class, such as the home mortgage interest and charitable contribution deductions, as well as tax incentives for work, higher education and retirement security. “We have a long way to go on this plan and there's always room for improvement, but this is a great start. I encourage everyone to review the plan and reach out to any of our offices with their thoughts.” Visit FairandSimple.gop to learn more about the plan. |
