Congressman Perry Supports The Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act

House Completes Government Funding Process

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Scott Perry offered his support for the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act, a proposal that would authorize funding for the U.S. government through Fiscal Year 2018.

“While no bill is perfect, I’m pleased to return to “regular order” to consider our spending. Some of these spending bills haven’t been considered in nearly a decade, putting spending levels on auto-pilot, which is dangerous for our Country,” said Congressman Perry. “I’ll continue to fight to ensure that this process is part of our larger discussion about spending, debt, and deficit reduction in the future.”

The proposal provides $416.3 billion to fund essential functions, including biodefense and infrastructure and incorporates $789.7 billion for national security activities and veterans’ affairs. The passage of this proposal will complete the full appropriations process in the House.

The package prioritizes a number of conservative policy solutions and focuses on cutting costs, improving efficiency, and works toward curbing wasteful Washington spending.

Some of the highlights include: the termination of 39 duplicative, erroneous or unnecessary federal programs, and freezes / reduces hundreds of others, thereby reducing the size and scope of the federal workforce; maintaining funding for programs like Meals on Wheels and Low Income Home Energy Assistance Programs (LIHEAP) to help the most vulnerable Americans; Pro-Life provisions that block federal funding from Planned Parenthood, saving an estimated $330 million; an expansion of existing taxpayer protections that prevent the funding of abortions under the auspices of international aid around the globe; prevention of funding that furthers the Affordable Care Act; increased funding for research and preparedness against bio-terrorism and pandemic flu; funding 21st Century Cures, which bolsters medical research for illnesses without current medical cures; funding for the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), which addresses opioid addiction treatment, prevention and rehabilitation; boosts funding for Deep Space Exploration at NASA; funding for 500 new Border Patrol agents;  funding to combat wild fires that are consuming the California and the Pacific and Mountain Northwest regions of the Nation; and increased funding for enhancement for cybersecurity of federal government servers and other cyber security efforts.
