Perry Statement on President’s Supreme Court Nominee

Today President Obama named federal appeals court Judge Merrick Garland to the seat on the U.S. Supreme Court previously held by Justice Antonin Scalia.

As a Member of the House of Representatives, I don’t have a vote in the judicial nominee confirmation process; the President has every right to fulfill his constitutional duty and make this nomination. Likewise, the Senate—as part of our co-equal branch of government—has every right to confirm / not confirm the nominee. It’s as simple as that.
