Rep. Perry Statement on Resolution to Impeach IRS Commisioner

Washington, DC—Representative Scott Perry (R-PA) issued the following statement after a series of procedural votes in support of H.Res. 828, a privileged resolution that calls for articles of impeachment to be brought against Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner John Koskinen. The resolution was referred to the House Judiciary Committee for further consideration.

“As has become clear from the many Pennsylvanians I talk with every day, there's a growing belief that America has two standards of justice - one for the well-connected and one for the rest of us. Commissioner Koskinen took control of the IRS in the wake of the Tea Party targeting scandal to reform the agency internally. Not only did he do nothing about that issue, but continued the trend of deception by deliberately keeping the American people in the dark.  If the Department of Justice won’t do its job, Congress simply must step in. The impeachment power is a political check that protects citizens against the abuse or violation of some public trust. We need to do our part to hold the IRS Commissioner accountable.
