Rep. Perry Paves Way for Harrisburg Courthouse Construction

Washington – U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-4) today supported legislation in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to authorize funding for the design and construction of a new federal courthouse in Harrisburg. The Harrisburg project is part of a long-awaited federal courthouse construction plan, developed by the federal judiciary and the General Services Administration.  The Committee approved the resolution authorizing the construction by a voice vote and does not require further action by the full House of Representatives.

“My staff and I have sought feedback from a wide array of sources regarding the Federal Courthouse project, including the City of Harrisburg, local business leaders, concerned citizens, the General Services Administration and others.”

“The project will ensure the proper administration of justice for our citizens through much-needed security and capacity upgrades. It also is viewed as a major economic development opportunity for the City of Harrisburg.”

“Congress also has a duty to ensure that taxpayer money is used efficiently. I’ve supported efforts in the U.S. House to improve the efficiency of the current federal courthouse construction process. The viability of the Harrisburg Courthouse Project depends on timely and efficient completion of other courthouse projects ahead of it on the judiciary’s five-year construction plan. I’ll continue to work towards reforms that ensure courthouses are completed on schedule and under budget,” said Perry, a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
