Rep. Perry Backs Bills to Block More Concessions to Iran

Washington - This week, Congressman Scott Perry (PA-4) voted in favor of a trio of bills designed to block the Obama Administration from granting more concessions to Iran and hold accountable the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism for its illicit behavior. This week marks the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, otherwise known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Block the Administration's Purchase of Heavy Water from Iran

In April, the Obama Administration announced an $8.6 million purchase of a nuclear chemical called “heavy water” from Iran, which is $8.6 million that could directly subsidize the regime’s nuclear program - or fund more terrorism against the West. The No 2H2O from Iran Act (H.R. 5119) prohibits the Administration from completing this purchase. This bill passed the House with a bipartisan majority 249 to 176.

Prevent Iran from Gaining Access to the US Dollar

Speculation has circulated for months that the Obama Administration wants to grant Iran access to the US Dollar—an unprecedented concession above and beyond the letter of the JCPOA – that would give Tehran access to billions of dollars in additional commerce to supplement the billions already provided in the form of nuclear sanctions relief. The United States Financial System Protection Act (H.R. 4992) prevents Iran’s access to the US Dollar until the regime ends its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and ceases its support for terrorism. This bill passed the House with a bipartisan majority 246 to 181.

Impose New Sanctions on Iran

The JCPOA did nothing to address Iran’s egregious human rights record, illicit ballistic missile program, or its continued role as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The deal narrowly lifted billions of dollars of nuclear-related sanctions, but left those related to Iran’s human rights abuses, ballistic missile development, and terror financing. The Iran Accountability Act (H.R. 5631) renews sanctions on Iran for these dangerous activities. This bill passed the House with a bipartisan majority 246 to 179.

“The deeply flawed nuclear deal was a bad idea to begin with and has only entrenched Iran’s hardline military and security forces that run the country. To add insult to injury, the Obama Administration has gone above and beyond the requirements of the nuclear deal to appease Tehran. How does giving the world’s leading state sponsor of terror access to millions of additional dollars make us any safer?”
